| Here's a list of the most popular optionnal excursions offered at Cayo Largo. This is only a partial list, others are available. In March 1999 we did the excursion to Pinar del Rio, and in December 1999 we did the one day cruise on the catamaran Erika IV. I included somes photos of these two wonderful days! Cruise on a Catamaran < photos
This is a full day cruise to relax in the sun while enjoying the following activities:
A stop at the coral reef for snorkelling, gears are included. The bottom scenery is incredible around the coral reef , there are many colorful fishes and the water is so clear that you can observe the fishes even if you decide to stay on the boat.
A visit to Cayo Alcatraz, a small virgin islet with gorgeous beaches and mangroves, unhabited only by some friendly iguanas that you can even hand feed!
A all-you-can-eat lobster lunch (delicious!).
Swiming in the Piscina Natural (Natural pool), this a sandbank in the middle of the sea.
Another stop for snorkelling at a spot where there is a ship wreck.
All day the refreshments are included : soft drinks, beer, fruit juice, coffee, water. Other catamarans offer cruises around Cayo Largo but the program of the day is similar to the one described above.

Havana
A short flight will bring you to Havana, the capital of Cuba, for a full day tour of the city. To discover: The cathedrale, the forteress, la Plaza de la Revolution, the Christopher Columbus cimetary, the modern part of the city and a tour of the old Havana Colonial. UNESCO has declared Old Havana a part of world heritage. Discover the Palace of the Captains General, la Plaza de Armas, the Plaza de la Cathedrale, the Capitol, the Castillo del Morro, etc...

Pinar del Rio < photos
The Pinar del Rio province is located on the extreme western part of the island of Cuba, in the "crocodile tail", between the Sierra de los Organos and the Sierra del Rosario. Between this montains there are beautiful valleys such as the San Vincente et the Vinales valleys. This is the land of the best tobacco in the wold. Visit the unique Vueltabajo tobacco plantations and the extraordinary Guayabita del Pinar liquor. Here's the program of the day:
- A tour in the valley by bus to see the typical limestone hills and the tobacco and coffee plantations.
- Visit of a hand-made cigar factory
- Visit of the Guayabita del Pinar liquor factory
- Visit of a tobacco drying house
- Visit of the Indian cave, including a ride in a small boat on a small undergroung river
Lunch is included (in an outdoor restaurant with a band playing folkloric Cuban tunes).

Other excursions
Other excursions offered form Cayo Largo ...
- Cayo Rico. This is a small desert island near Cayo Largo with a superb beach. It's a good place for scuba diving.
- Other nearby islets: Cayo Rosario, Cayo Pajaros (immense nest of rocks where ocean bird procreate), Cayo Cantiles (inhabitated by apes), and Cayo Sigua, among others.
